Hello families,
We are working out arrangements with Lifetouch for school portraits. The date and time for portraits will be announced as soon as it is finalized. Due to COVID19, Lifetouch will only accept online orders. Every student's email will be registered with Lifetouch, and Lifetouch will send an email to the student's school email to provide information on how to order photos online. There is no option pay for photos with cash or a check. We hope you can use this extra time to make arrangements to ensure you can order your photos online with a credit card.
Thank you!
Hello families, as we shared earlier this week in a Facebook post, guidance has been released in allowing small learning groups to occur in person at our school's campus. In order to ensure student safety, our Board of Trustees and our teachers are working to create groups of no more than 4 students at a time to work with their teachers in grades K-5, while wearing masks and practicing social distancing to the extent possible.
To answer the questions our office has received the most, the groups are based on student academic needs and technology aptitude, and not your personal schedule needs. Additionally, the students who are invited to in-person groups must still participate in online learning.
We know this is a hard time and we appreciate how much every parent is trying. We are aware that some of our parents have had to sacrifice job time and learn unfamiliar technology alongside their children. The COVID19 Pandemic has impacted everyone, in schools, in businesses, and in our own homes. Please, stay strong. In the face of frustration, practice patience. We will eventually get through this. Our teachers and school staff care very much about our students. We look forward to the day when we can all be together again in the classroom, but it may be a while before that happens.

Reopening And Attendance / Reapertura Y Asistencia
Important Information on Reopening and Attendance:
We have two weeks until the end of the first trimester - wow! To those of you who have attended all of your online meetings and turned in all of your work packets: CONGRATULATIONS!
To those of you who have missed classes or who haven't turned in work packets, please remember that every minute of your learning is important to your future. Contact your teachers now if you have struggled to attend class or turn in work -- the longer you wait to catch up, the more you could fall behind. Save Nov 4-5 for parent-teacher conferences.
At our Board meeting Tuesday, the Board of Trustees voted to expand the small learning hubs to comply with the California Department of Education's criteria, which is up to 16 people in a room including adults. Our K-5 teachers are working on schedules right now to expand the small learning hubs you are already participating in. Beginning Monday, 10/19, small learning hubs will offer two hours of in-person instruction.
On Tuesday, the Board also agreed to submit a waiver application to the Monterey County Dept of Public Health to allow us to reopen, despite Monterey County's Purple Tier status on the State Blueprint for a Safer Economy ( https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/). If approved, San Lucas School will move to Phase Two (Moderate Risk) of our Reopening Plan, which will mean in-person learning at San Lucas School for Grades TK-5. The hope is to be able to reopen to in-person learning by the end of November, for all of K-5.
The terms of the waiver application may not be applied to the junior high students, so grades 6-8 will remain on distance learning until Monterey County is in Red Tier for at least two weeks.
Please read the attached letter for information on our classroom quarantine for select students.

Hello families, winter break will be from December 14, 2020 - Jan 8, 2021, and the last day of school has been moved to June 10, 2021. Please read the attached letter regarding the change, and the new school calendar.
Welcome back, families! We were thrilled to see full attendance in Mrs. Oliveras/Ross' class today and so many happy faces here in-person for K-3. We hope to return all of K-5 to in-person learning by January 25.

**11:30 - 12:30 Students on distance learning may stop by the school to pick up the day's lunch and the following morning's breakfast
Please remember, now that school is in session, it is very important to notify the school if a student who is attending classes in-person tests positive for COVID. At this time, we have no positive test cases among people who come inside the school building daily. There are, however, positive cases within the community. In the interest of maintaining safety, we are extending the distance learning in Mrs. Olivera's/Mrs. Ross' room for one more week. This class has done a GREAT job of joining their online lessons since Jan 11 ~ keep it up! We hope to return the grades 4-5 classroom to in-person learning the following week on February 1. In the meantime, wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands!
